A woman once accepted a job in a field for which she had a college degree and past experience. She had community contacts, she enjoyed this type of work, and her family could use the extra income – the job seemed to be a perfect fit! Almost immediately, however, problems emerged. As the weeks wore on, she wore out. Being a die-hard, she held on, trying to force the job to work for her, and to be successful in the job. “God, please show me what I should do!” she prayed.
One cold winder day, her phone rang and a young woman said, “You probably don’t remember me, but I was in a seminar group that you taught about a year ago. Could I come talk to you today?” Although her schedule was full, she made an appointment with the young woman. She discovered that the young woman was in despair about her job, and was yearning to enter a field where she could express her strengths and gifts. The woman urged her to do what was right for her, to choose excellence and quality, and to recognize that her gifts were from God.
It was only after the young woman left that the woman realized, “That advise I gave was for my benefit!”
Don’t be surprised today at how God answers your prayer. It may even come through something you say to help someone else.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. ~ Psalm 121:1-2
