Faith

We, humans, have faith in a lot of things. We have faith in our work ethic, that it will stay active for a long time. We have faith in our sports teams, that they will win every game. We have faith in the stock market, that our money will be invested wisely. Most importantly, however, is our faith in God.

All of these things have one simple thing in common. We lose faith in all of those more than once in our lifetime. This means that, even though we try and try, we still lose faith in God’s plan for us. I myself am not above this. I lose faith multiple times throughout my week and am not ashamed to admit it. We mess up, we fall down, and God pulls us right back up, right? My fear is that when I fall down and pull myself up, I will lose faith that the Lord will get me through the falls, bumps, bruises, and the overall storms of life.

But why does this happen? First of all, the Bible tells us in Mathew 17:20,

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

A mustard seed is small, and if you only need that much faith nothing will be impossible for us. Yet we tend to lose it so easily, and we get discombobulated, thinking we have to rely only on ourselves.

I think that we give up on our faith so easily because we are so focused on ourselves, and we fail to see the bigger picture. We only see what we have to do, not what God wants us to do. That little tiny mustard seed is so important to have in our daily lives, but we forget it’s there. This is because our lives are jam-packed with meetings, errands, the hustle, bustle, and hum-drum of life, and we (figuratively) drop our mustard seed and forget that we had any in the first place.

So, in conclusion, as 1 Corinthians 16:13 says,

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”

Put God first, put yourself last, carry that mustard seed with you wherever on this little blue orb we call Earth takes you. Truly you will see what amazing things God will do for you.
